How Can Kids Help?: Helping at School

How Can Kids Help ?

Helping at School

Why Is this Important?

Here is a part of a real letter a mother wrote to her son at the start of second grade:

"When I was young there was a boy in my school who looked a little different and he wore funny clothes. He didn’t smile. He hung his head low and he never looked at anyone. The other kids teased him a lot. I never teased him, but I never told anyone to stop, either.

And I never talked to him, not once. I never invited him to sit next to me at lunch, or to play with me at recess. Instead, he sat and played by himself. He must have been very lonely.
I still think about this boy often. I wonder if he remembers me? Probably not. I bet if I’d asked him to play he would still remember me.

I think people are put in our lives as gifts to us. The children in your class this year are gifts to you.
So please treat each one of your classmates like a gift. Every single one.

We don’t send you to school to become the best at anything.
We send you to school to practice being brave and kind."

What Can You Do?

When you are at school you can practice being:

  • Respectful
  • Responsible
  • Safe

Kids can be KIND to one another.

Kids can include others in games and conversation.
