What Makes Me Become We?: What makes me become we?

Construct your argument

What makes Me become We?
Think about all you have learned in this inquiry! Now you are ready to answer the question, "What makes me become we?" Keep in mind that YOU are the "me" in the question! What can you do to be a true part of the "we" that is your community?

1. Review

Review what we have learned so far:

We read about two ways people met their needs and wants.
  • Community volunteers helped build a home for Stephen Yang and his family.
  • Oranges are grown, packed and sent from warm communities to places that need or want them.
We read about two challenges people faced in meeting their needs and wants.
  • There was a scarcity of fresh and healthy food for poor people in urban communities.
  • Water shortages in California caused problems for farmers.
We read about three ways people worked to overcome the challenges of meeting their needs and wants.
  • Breanne Heath started a fruit and vegetable farm in the city of Chicago to help people get fresh, healthy and affordable food.
  • Community members pitched in to design a safe and inexpensive playground made of recycled materials.
  • A young girl with cancer wanted to help children like her and inspired a whole organization.

2. Brainstorm

Brainstorm to get ideas:

What is the difference between an individual and a group?

How does the interdependence of people in a community help them to meet their needs and wants?

Think about your community. Can you identify any challenges or problems in it?

Can you make any connections to what you have learned so far in this inquiry?

Now you are ready to answer the question, "What makes me become we?" Keep in mind that YOU are the "me" in the question! What can you do to be a true part of the "we" that is your community?

3. Create your poster

Create Your Poster!!

  • Pick one of the problems or challenges that you brainstormed when you were thinking of your community.
  • Use the connections that you mde from the inquiry to help you solve the problem.
  • Now complete a draft of the poster showing yourself as the ME with a problem in the first box. Show how you are going to involve your community in solving the problem in the WE box.
  • Confer with your teacher.
  • When you get the thumbs up, you may start your final draft of the poster.

If you actually carry out your idea, take a picture or video of it, and we'll put you on this website!
